Chib
Chib is the nom de disc for Tokyo's Yukiko Chiba, who, like her contemporaries Colleen and Mira Calix, makes delicate, detailed, organic-sounding electronic music. While Chiba studied piano for ten years, she found the nature of her lessons to be too stifling and not entertaining enough, so she quit; however, she continued to make music, incorporating her classical training into her compositions, which are just as likely to include traditional instruments such as piano and guitar as they are music boxes or reconfigured samples of found sounds from restaurants or parks. Chiba signed to Fat Cat in 2001 and appeared on the label's No Watches, No Maps collection before issuing her debut EP, Moco, in 2004.
