La chanteuse Justine Galmiche, ex-membre du groupe de Pagan Heimsgard, et le musicien et chanteur Pierrick Valence, qui s’est distingué dans des formations de death ou de thrash metal, réunissent à la fois les allumés de musique médiévale, les accrocs à la série Game of Thrones par le proche univers qu’il manipule et les fans de metal. Leur groupe Skald a cassé la baraque dès son premier album Le Chant des Vikings sorti en 2019. Comme le précédent, ce Viking Memories a été produit et composé par Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet dont le CV aligne aussi bien des collaborations auprès de la star sénégalaise Youssou N’Dour, la formation corse Barbara Furtuna que les grosses machines de variété que sont Florent Pagny, Johnny et David Halliday ou Pascal Obispo. Les chants en vieux norrois, langue ancienne des peuples du nord, les récits mythologiques des Vikings, rythmés par de lourds tambours binaires, sont ici enveloppés et polis avec efficacité. Les arrangements et mélodies sont agréables, les performances vocales convaincantes. S’il y manque un chouïa de mystère pour être vraiment émouvant, l’univers annoncé y est très bien reconstitué. © Benjamin MiNiMuM/Qobuz
