Too High to Riot is an appropriate title for the second proper full-length by Paris-born, New York-based rapper Bas. The MC's brash rhymes touch on subjects like police brutality and inner-city struggles (particularly on closing song "Black Owned Business"), but there's also a sedated feel to the tracks, fitting for drug-themed tracks like "Methylone." The production is clear and atmospheric, sometimes recalling cloud rap acts like Main Attrakionz, especially apropos given the fact that this album contains a song titled "Clouds Never Get Old." The album is concise and focused, with its 12 songs averaging three minutes each, so no time is wasted. Bas' Dreamville labelmates J. Cole and Cozz guest on one track each, and British electronic band the Hics contribute to two songs.
