Après un très décevant Kings Of Metal six ans plus tôt, plus grand monde n’attendait un retour de Manowar, dont la musique semblait trop ancrée dans la décennie 1980.
Et pourtant après un remaniement du line-up sortait The Triumph Of Steel, l’album qui annonçait le grand come-back de la bande de DeMaio. Totalement affranchi des contraintes radio, The Triumph Of Steel s’ouvre sur un mini opéra rock de trente minutes, « Achilles Agony And Ectazy In Eight Parts » reprenant le mythe du héros Grec avant d’enchaîner quelques morceaux de bravoure comme « Ride The Dragon » ou « Spirit Horse Of The Cheerokee » morceaux authentiquement bourrins dans lesquels le nouveau batteur, le bien nommé Rhino, peut donner cours à toute sa puissance physique.
Prosaïquement, The Triumph Of Steel est probablement, à ce jour, l’album le mieux construit et le plus abouti du groupe qui coïncida avec son grand retour sur le devant de la scène.
