On ne l’arrête (toujours) plus ! Avec The Prophet Speaks, Van Morrison publie son quatrième album en à peine plus d’un an ! Après Roll With the Punches, Versatile et You’re Driving Me Crazy, le vieux barde irlandais s’attaque à ses éternelles marottes. Ce patrimoine jazz, blues et rhythm’n’blues dont il reprend des merveilles signées notamment John Lee Hooker, Sam Cooke, Willie Dixon ou Solomon Burke. Mais comme Van The Man est doué, il s’approprie ces classiques en moins de deux ! Au passage, il glisse six nouvelles compositions personnelles (Got to Go Where the Love Is, 5 am Greenwich Mean Time, Love Is Hard Work, Spirit Will Provide, Ain’t Gonna Moan No More et The Prophet Speaks) qui, elles aussi, fleurent bon le jazz’n’blues’n’soul.

« C’était important pour moi de recommencer à enregistrer de nouvelles musiques et aussi de reprendre ces blues qui m'ont inspiré à mes débuts », précise un Van Morrison qui sait de quoi il parle. Une fois de plus, le virtuose tueur de l’orgue Joey DeFrancesco (déjà coauteur de You’re Driving Me Crazy) est de la partie avec le guitariste Dan Wilson, le batteur Michael Ode et le saxophoniste Troy Roberts.
