Remembered by fans of the Battlefield Band as one of their early members, and again as one of the newest, as he rejoined the band in 2002. It is hoped that fans of that band will track down his solo work, as it is every bit as interesting and accomplished as his work with the band. Kilbride is a splendid guitarist and a soulful singer, and Nightingale Lane has some of his finest work. Most of the cuts on this CD are solo or with only one or two other musicians, and the texture of the whole CD is intimate sounding and meditative. The Turlough O'Carolan tunes are very well done, and, in fact, these may be the best guitar renditions ever of these historic pieces. His own original instrumentals have the character of classics that you had forgotten -- they're that solidly within the great tradition of Celtic music. Only the mournful "Rickrack" drags a bit, sounding longer than its three and a half minutes thanks to the bleakness of the delivery. The rest of Nightingale Lane is first rate and well worth seeking out.
