By the time National Lampoon produced the comedy LP Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll and the End of the World, they were on a downward spiral from which the publication would not recover. The imaginative writers from the early days, Michael O'Donoghue and Tony Hendra, among others, were all gone by the time of this 1982 recording; this record hardly compares with the writing and performers within earlier classics such as Radio Dinner and Lemmings. Ayatollah Khoemeni is introduced as the host of Firing Line in a recurring brief joke, Elizabeth Kemp does a fairly good impression of Jane Fonda, but the script falls flat. In fact, the biggest problem with this record is that it darts around without any significant extended skits. The musical numbers are longer than the skits but just as poorly written. It is very safe to say that fans of National Lampoon magazine in its heyday can safely bypass this very weak record, which is unlikely to be reissued on CD or to rise in value as a collectable.
