Tiré d'un bouquin de Willard Manus lu en prison par Guy Stevens (manager des Clash), Mott The Hoople, ce nom qui semble ne rien vouloir dire, reste l'un des meilleurs groupes britanniques des 70's. Précurseur punk, pionniers du glam, Mott aura certes peu dépassé les frontières mais marquera les meilleurs, David Bowie en tête. L'icône les remettra même sur les rails en leur écrivant All the Young Dudes, lors de leur arrivée chez Columbia en 1972. Car avant ça, la bande de Ian Hunter était chez Island Records et signait quatre disques entre effluves dylaniennes et déculottées rock stoniennes, Mott the Hoople (1969), Mad Shadows (1970), Wildlife et Brain Capers en 1971. Avec Mental Train: The Island Years 1969-1971, Universal réédite ainsi les premières années de Mott, en ressortant des cartons des inédits, raretés et B-sides, mais aussi une session live à la BBC et leur live aux Fairfield Halls de Londres en 1970, le tout dans un coffret de six disques. A l'intérieur, on retrouve plusieurs versions de leurs reprises de I Really Got You des Kinks, Ohio de Neil Young (en live) ou encore Hey Jude des Beatles. Tiré d'un bouquin de Willard Manus lu en prison par Guy Stevens (manager des Clash), Mott The Hoople, ce nom qui semble ne rien vouloir dire, reste l'un des meilleurs groupes britanniques des 70's. Précurseur punk, pionniers du glam, Mott aura certes peu dépassé les frontières mais marquera les meilleurs, David Bowie en tête. L'icône les remettra même sur les rails en leur écrivant All the Young Dudes, lors de leur arrivée chez Columbia en 1972. Car avant ça, la bande de Ian Hunter était chez Island Records et signait quatre disques entre effluves dylaniennes et déculottées rock stoniennes, Mott the Hoople (1969), Mad Shadows (1970), Wildlife et Brain Capers en 1971. Avec Mental Train: The Island Years 1969-1971, Universal réédite ainsi les premières années de Mott, en ressortant des cartons des inédits, raretés et B-sides, mais aussi une session live à la BBC et leur live aux Fairfield Halls de Londres en 1970, le tout dans un coffret de six disques. A l'intérieur, on retrouve plusieurs versions de leurs reprises de I Really Got You des Kinks, Ohio de Neil Young (en live) ou encore Hey Jude des Beatles.
