Les albums solos de Robert Plant n’ont jamais réellement atteint le génie ou ne serait-ce que la qualité de son travail au sein de Led Zeppelin. Certes, il y eut Raising Sand, très bel opus enregistré en 2007 avec la chanteuse de country américaine Alison Krauss… Cette fois pourtant, le génial chanteur âgé aujourd’hui de 66 ans semble avoir pris le temps de mûrir son nouveau projet. Avec Lullaby And... The Ceaseless Roar, son dixième essai en solitaire, Plant signe un disque qui, bien que renfermant toutes ses passions connues (le rock, le blues, la country, le folk, la musique celtique et les musiques ethniques), résonne avec une grande originalité et un éclectisme salvateur. Sa voix charismatique lie ces onze titres souvent attachants et adossés contre des mélodies solides. Côté instrumentarium, le chanteur de Led Zep s’est fait plaisir, laissant les Sensational Space Shifters qui l’épaulent déballer leur sublime quincaillerie faite de banjo, bendir, djembé, kologo et autres mini-Moog.
