Avec ce projet, Anthony Romaniuk et Toshiyuki Shibata désiraient tout doucement ouvrir les possibilités d’incorporer des éléments d’improvisation dans la musique de chambre de Johann Sebastian Bach. Les deux musiciens aimant tous deux improviser dans différents genres (jazz, musique folk, musique ancienne, etc.), mais étant aussi de fervents amoureux du répertoire et du langage musical de Bach, il leur semblait naturel de prendre certaines œuvres du compositeur comme base de cette nouvelle démarche. Avec pour résultat une approche rafraîchissante de Bach, où l’improvisation fait partie du paysage sonore global, que ce soit dans l’ornementation, la basse continue ou d’entiers passages consacrés à la « jam ». L’instrumentation de ce programme est également diversifiée, chacun des musiciens utilisant deux instruments afin d’élargir le spectre timbral. Ce projet est, pour eux, le moyen essentiel d’explorer comment être à la fois fidèle à la partition et à soi-même en tant que musicien-créateur désireux de maîtriser ce langage musical. © Fuga Libera
