15 mixtapes et un EP plus tard, voilà enfin la sortie du premier album studio de Tory Lanez. L’enfant caché de Toronto n’a pas cessé de grandir dans l’ombre du géant de la ville : Drake. Forcément, cela se ressent dans sa musique qui est directement marquée par celle de son aîné. Cependant Tory Lanez ne fait aucun complexe d’infériorité et démarre tambour battant dès le premier titre. Il va jusqu’à dire « I’ma be the biggest artist in the whole world » (je serai le plus grand artiste au monde). Pas toujours original, I Told You a le mérite d’être un assemblage de musiques bien travaillées (4am Flew, Cold Hard Love, All The Girls… ) et abouties. Guns And Roses fait partie des bonnes surprises de cet album et Tory prouve qu’il ne se contente pas de faire du rap. Il sait aussi varier les plaisirs et prendre des accents plutôt r’n’b, voire nu soul par moment.
