Le blues est la racine de (presque) toutes les musiques populaires américaines. En activité depuis les années 70 (d’abord sous son nom de baptême Kevin Moore, puis sous le pseudo de Keb’ Mo’ à partir des années 90), le musicien Keb’ Mo’ a largement exploré les racines blues et même fait plusieurs fois le tour du tronc. Après une quinzaine d’albums, une poignée de Grammys et une reconnaissance internationale méritée, il décide avec Good To Be… de se reposer un peu sous les branches : la soul, le folk, la pop. Le premier morceau s’appelle Good To Be (Home Again) et le dernier Quiet Moments. Entre les deux, on s’en doute, cet album ne va pas être un sommet de musique radicale expérimentale. Plutôt un doux cocon de chansons feelgood, équivalent musical d’un bain ou d’un chocolat chaud (voire d’une baignoire remplie de chocolat chaud). Le ton du disque est donné par sa reprise réussie du tube Lean On Me de Bill Withers. Ici, on va entendre des orchestrations de cordes, un doux orgue, des chœurs, des guitares tempérées et la voix toujours jeune et pleine de soul de Keb’ Mo’. Les chansons composées par ses soins ne sont pas aussi mémorables que la mélodie de Lean On Me, mais toutes sont élégantes, arrondissent les angles et invitent à la détente, à la légèreté ou à la romance. Idéal pour écouter à la terrasse d’un café au printemps, cet album confirme que c’est encore et toujours dans les vieux pots qu’on fait les meilleures soupes.
