Publié en 1974 et succédant à Stranded (1973), Country Life voit la formation glam rock britannique Roxy Music creuser le sillon de son prédécesseur, marqué par le départ de Brian Eno au profit de la ligne directrice voulue par le chanteur Bryan Ferry. En pleine maîtrise de sa recette, alternant art rock aussi majestueux qu'inventif et registre pop-rock élégant, le groupe sait tout aussi bien mélanger le tout comme sur "The Thrill of It All" placé en ouverture et donnant le ton général d'un album particulièrement cohérent gorgé de réussites artistiques comme "Out of the Blue", "Prairie Rose" ou "Casanova". Quatrième opus et quatrième classique d'affilée pour le groupe, rien ne semble alors pouvoir l'arrêter.
