Born Here Live Here Die Here est le septième album du chanteur américain de country Luke Bryan et fait suite à What Makes You Country, paru en 2017. Sa promotion a toutefois débuté plus d’un an avant sa sortie officielle avec le titre « Knockin’ Boots », paru en avril 2019, suivi par « What She Wants Tonight » en fin d’année. Initialement prévu pour le printemps 2020, Born Here Live Here Die Here est repoussé en raison de la pandémie mondiale de Covid-19, mais l’artiste décide de poursuivre sa politique de sortie de singles afin de faire patienter les fans jusqu’au cœur de l’été 2020, date finalement retenue pour une sortie officielle. « One Margarita » et « Build Me a Daddy » sont ainsi dévoilés, ne laissant que six titres véritablement inédits pour le lancement officiel du disque.
Celui-ci ne dépasse que de très peu la demi-heure de musique, avec dix titres au compteur. Très classique dans son approche, Luke Bryan ne fait pas réellement de folies sur ses titres joliment troussés mais pas franchement originaux. Les guitares acoustiques, violons et batteries entraînantes et jouées aux balais sont légion et servent de socle indéboulonnable à tous les morceaux. Mais il n’y a pas tromperie sur la marchandise, Luke Bryan affichant la couleur dès le titre de l’album : Born Here Live Here Die Here est avant tout l’éloge de la stabilité, du patrimoine country nourrissant le mouvement musical contemporain.
Aussi n’hésite-t-il pas à chanter : « Ride the same roads, work the same dirt, go to the same church and drink the same beer » (Rouler sur les mêmes routes, effectuer le même sae boulot, aller dans la même église et boire la même bière), brandissant fièrement, tel un étendard, son ambition de relier son histoire à celle de son père ainsi que de son grand-père.
Jamais surprenant, trop court pour courir le moindre risque, Born Here Live Here Die Here n’en demeure pas moins plaisant par moments, voire touchant, et réserve quelques ballades efficaces comme « Build Me a Daddy », « Little Less Broken » ou encore « Where Are We Goin' ».
