Trois ans après son opus "It’s time for a Love Revolution", Lenny Kravitz nous revient avec ce Black and White America engagé, plus personnel encore : même si l’amour reste son sujet de prédilection, le racisme toujours présent aux États-Unis l’a poussé à nous parler de ce thème qui lui est cher, étant le fils d’un père blanc et d’une mère noire. Même si Kravitz n’a pas oublié son univers musical mêlant habilement funk, rock et soul, il se laisse aller à de nouvelles expériences en lorgnant sur le rap et le reggae, et s’entoure alors de Jay-Z et Drake.
