Il ne faut surtout pas passer à côté de Tzimon Barto, un ovni musical halluciné et hallucinant, qui ne laisse personne de marbre. Son CV est une sorte de cadavre exquis : poète, philosophe, culturiste, polyglotte – il parle sept langues ! Tzimon Barto est l'homme de tous les excès. Un jeu trop doux pour certains, trop agressif pour d'autres, une rythmique trop rigide ou trop rubato, une conception du récital trop brouillonne ou trop imprévisible (il n'hésite pas à réciter ses propres poèmes avant de donner un bis). Bref, l'enfant terrible du piano déroute par sa liberté de ton. 


Mais tout ceci lasserait bien vite si derrière, tous ces blasphèmes musicaux ne cachaient pas une lecture totalement novatrice et sidérante des grandes œuvres du répertoire. En l'occurrence, les premières mesures du Clavier bien tempéré, tombé depuis longtemps dans la mémoire collective, nous décochent un uppercut dont on ne se relèvera qu'après avoir religieusement écouté l'intégralité du disque. Barto creuse un sillon infiniment personnel – auquel absolument personne n'aurait songé. Des générations entières de pianistes et musicologues se sont escrimées, en vain, à vouloir trancher sur l'interprétation idéale de l'œuvre pour clavier de Bach en réduisant la question à deux paramètres : la rythmique (carrée vs rubato) et le mode de jeu (legato vs détaché). Barto refuse de trancher et, sans prétention, s'élève au-dessus de la mêlée. Le génie réside sans doute dans la libre-pensée. © Pierre Lamy/Qobuz
