Á noter que les bourses plates pourront se rabattre sur deux éditions moins conséquentes : la première en un seul volume et de treize titres, la deuxième en deux volets, rassemblant trente-et une chansons, dont quatre prestations en concerts.
Pour le reste, on imagine que les petites gâteries (et en particulier les extraits de concerts) raviront les fans, et ne séduiront pas spécialement de nouveaux publics, tant le sérieux qui présida aux prémisses de la carrière du chanteur, désireux de s’établir en nom propre, et plus simplement en tant que vocaliste de The Police, rayonne ici à chaque mesure.
De sa fascination pour le jazz (« The Dream of the Blue Turtles ») et la musique classique (l’adaptation d’un thème de Prokofiev dans « Russians ») à son goût pour la pop adulte (« Englishman in New York ») et ses préoccupations humanistes (« They Dance Alone »), Sting a toujours démontré une sainte horreur du risque (à l’exception du très brillamment réussi album Ten Summoner’s Tales), et un sens aigu du bon goût.
Cette somme vient à point nommé rappeler la joliesse de son inspiration, sa capacité à rendre son public intelligent – ou à peu près – et son inclinaison à irriter l’ensemble de la critique, usée par la prétention récurrente de ses productions. En creux, 25 Years nous remémore que cet artiste n’a pas enregistré un album vital depuis au bas mot une décennie.

Ce pic, cette éminence, et ce pavé, incluent trois chapitres en autant de CD, nourris de 45 titres (remastérisés), emblématiques de la carrière de l’instituteur défroqué, ainsi qu’un fort livret comprenant tous les textes des chansons, un avant-propos de la star en personne, et enfin un DVD compilant des performances inédites. Á noter que les bourses plates pourront se rabattre sur deux éditions moins conséquentes : la première en un seul volume et de treize titres, la deuxième en deux volets, rassemblant trente-et une chansons, dont quatre prestations en concerts.
Pour le reste, on imagine que les petites gâteries (et en particulier les extraits de concerts) raviront les fans, et ne séduiront pas spécialement de nouveaux publics, tant le sérieux qui présida aux prémisses de la carrière du chanteur, désireux de s’établir en nom propre, et plus simplement en tant que vocaliste de The Police, rayonne ici à chaque mesure.
De sa fascination pour le jazz (« The Dream of the Blue Turtles ») et la musique classique (l’adaptation d’un thème de Prokofiev dans « Russians ») à son goût pour la pop adulte (« Englishman in New York ») et ses préoccupations humanistes (« They Dance Alone »), Sting a toujours démontré une sainte horreur du risque (à l’exception du très brillamment réussi album Ten Summoner’s Tales), et un sens aigu du bon goût.
Cette somme vient à point nommé rappeler la joliesse de son inspiration, sa capacité à rendre son public intelligent – ou à peu près – et son inclinaison à irriter l’ensemble de la critique, usée par la prétention récurrente de ses productions. En creux, 25 Years nous remémore que cet artiste n’a pas enregistré un album vital depuis au bas mot une décennie.
