About Playlist

Steve Winwood formed Traffic in 1967 with his friends from Birmingham: Jim Capaldi (drummer), Chris Wood (flute and saxophone), and Dave Mason (guitar). This marked the end of the Spencer Davis Group, with which Winwood had enjoyed success thanks to the hit "Gimme Some Loving." Similar to Cream and Jethro Tull in the same era, Traffic delved into a more complex and musically elaborate form of rock, eventually paving the way for progressive rock a few years later with bands like Yes, Genesis, and others. Traffic leaned more towards jazz rock and folk, not hesitating to produce songs that easily surpassed the 7-minute mark. Traffic underwent various lineup changes, but Winwood, Wood, and Capaldi remained constant. Toward the end of their shared journey, they were joined by Ric Grech, David Hood, Roger Hawkins, and Rebop Kwaku Baah (a future member of Can).
