About Playlist
A great architect of the evolution of the double bass' role in the 1960s, Gary Peacock was always attached to the melodic fabric of what he played. He proved it again with crazy grace on his final album, Tangents (ECM, 2017). Born in Idaho in 1935, Peacock died at his home in upstate New York on September 4, 2020. He played with the greatest revolutionaries of jazz history, whether it be Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Albert Ayler, George Russell, Paul Bley, and of course Keith Jarrett, with whom he was a member of the famous trio along with Jack DeJohnette from 1983 to 2014. And when not recording with greats like Marc Copland, Bill Frisell, Lee Konitz, Ralph Towner or Marilyn Crispell to name a handful, Gary Peacock engraved always perfect albums under his name.
