A year after his return to the spotlight with To Believe, Jason Swinscoe, the brains behind The Cinematic Orchestra (now reduced to just him and his acolyte Dominic Smith) seems to want to increase the frequency of his releases, which took a real hit after twelve years of almost radio silence dotted with a few soundtracks. Featuring a great cast (Roots Manuva, Tawiah, Heidi Vogel…), To Believe showed that, in terms of elegance, The Cinematic Orchestra has always been miles ahead of its contemporaries. This is still the case, as the list of guests on this remix album proves. Some of the best players of the electronic scene are brought together on the record: Dorian Concept, Actress and Anthony Naples on an old-school, hypnotic remix of To Believe; the cult but rarely seen producer Pépé Bradock revisits Wait For Now twice, with grace and sobriety. Also worth noting is the presence of Ras G, an esteemed hip-hop producer from Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder who passed away in summer 2019, on a haunting version of Lessons which would probably have been his last ever remix. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
