Maya Jane Coles, a producer and DJ from London who quickly imposed herself (as well as her duo She Is Danger with Lena Cullen, mostly known for their Gorillaz and Massive Attack remixes) onto the scene, is going big with a double album! Three years after Comfort, her first opus released between two perfect sets (DJ Kicks in 2012 and Fabric in 2014), she puts out about twenty titles, with an arrangement that in fact resembles another set. Rather atmospheric and surprisingly trip hop-like at first, Take Flight progressively evolves towards deep house, dup and even new wave. At times, it even lets through some surprising 90s curves. Especially when she lets loose in formats closer to pop than electro, Maya Jane Coles highlights the real potential of her musical development. By the end, we come out of this second album wavering, shaken up by so many sound textures and style diversity. © MD/Qobuz
