Liberace recorded for a number of different labels during his career, and in the years following his death, a number of budget-line compilations surfaced on a variety of cut-rate labels, so it's easy to forget where he recorded the records that made his career. It was at Columbia, and the 1999 Super Hits compilation features ten of those celebrated waxings with Mitch Miller. Since it's only ten songs, it's hardly definitive, but those ten songs are all winners, containing such staples as "Begin the Beguine," "September Song," "Kitten on the Keys," "Warsaw Concerto," "Fantasie Impromptu Op. 66," "Beer Barrel Polka" and "Chopsticks." There are a few other compilations of his Columbia material on the market, but this actually contains more hits than the others, even if it has fewer tracks -- and that's why it's a better buy.
