I Rest My Case is YoungBoy Never Broke Again's fifth studio album, his first release of 2023, and the first fruit of his deal with Motown after he left Atlantic. It also appears to be his attempt to hop on the trend known as rage, a subgenre popularized by rappers like Playboi Carti and Trippie Redd during the early 2020s, marked by punkish energy and buzzing, distorted synths. Songs like "Swag on Point" and "Just Like Me" are the closest YoungBoy has come to making hyperpop, while strangely enough the song titled "Rage" sounds closer to the less aggressive tracks on the record. Not entirely as unhinged as one might expect from a YoungBoy rage album, it's still a step in a new direction for him. I Rest My Case debuted in the Top Ten of the Billboard 200.
