Future is one of the artists who defined the sound of the last decade. It would only have been too easy for the Atlanta rapper to take the lazy option for his new music, as many big names in the industry have done these past few years. And yet, it has to be said that this eighth official album doesn’t just coast through a list of trap songs. High Off Life is a carefully crafted success far from the albums of sacred monsters like Drake, Young Thug, DaBaby, YoungBoy NBA, Lil Uzi Vert, Meek Mill, Travis Scott and Lil Durk, that run on autopilot. The dream team is out. Of course, the themes have remained the same – drug dealing, lust, success, the streets and so on. But even if he doesn’t innovate on High Off Life, this time Future delves a little deeper into a more introspective trap sound and the album exudes a sense of calmness and tranquillity.
