FKJ
Under the name French Kiwi Juice or FKJ for short, Paris-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Vincent Fenton creates mellow tunes that sometimes utilize live looping techniques and other times blend jazz, soul, and electronic experimentation into new forms. A live looping style became one of FKJ's calling cards with 2017's "Tadow," a completely improvised collaboration with Masego that went viral and was eventually streamed hundreds of millions of times. FKJ continued expanding on his hybrid sound as he released more music, collaborating with names like Toro y Moi and Carlos Santana on his 2022 full-length V I N C E N T.
FKJ started out working as a theater sound engineer while teaching himself the basics of music production at the same time. Finding a style within electronic music that melded the pulse of house with smoother organic elements, he and other artists on the Roche Musique label worked toward the development of an electronic subgenre of new French house near the start of the 2010s. A series of EPs arrived on the label, with The Twins showing up in 2012 and Time for a Change dropping the next year. A strong online profile served as the basis for much of FKJ's fame, and he developed a strong live set to match his studio output on-stage. The Take Off EP followed in 2014, and FKJ spent much of the next two years working toward the recording of a proper full-length, which arrived in March of 2017 as a self-titled long player on the Believe Direct Limited label. Shortly after the release of his debut, FKJ met Jamaican-American vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Masego and the two took part in an all-day recording session that produced the viral jam "Tadow." The song caught on like wildfire and quickly brought new attention to both artists. FKJ was soon playing major festivals and releasing new music like 2018 single "Is Magic Gone" and 2019 EP Ylang Ylang, all pursuing the same light, breezy, and multi-textural production style that shone on his breakthrough. After releasing the Just Piano EP (an aptly named collection of piano instrumentals), FKJ readied his second album. Released in June of 2022, sophomore album V I N C E N T was a playful tangle of experiments with genre and production, and featured guest appearances from Little Dragon, Santana, ((( O ))), and Toro y Moi.
