Sétimo álbum da carreira do Whitesnake, Slide It In (1984) foi um marco na trajetória da banda. Desenvolvido com riffs pesados de guitarras e baladas poderosíssimas, o disco utilizou vários dos tropos do hard rock: letras extremamente sexuais, desesperos amorosos e muito apelo emotivo. Além disso, a banda ainda exibiu alguns momentos o lado blues que marcou a sonoridade da banda. É nítido que tudo em Slide It In foi preparado para alcançar o êxito comercial nos Estados Unidos. Tanto que após o lançamento do álbum, o líder David Coverdale demitiu todos os músicos e os substituiu por homens mais jovens e bonitos no padrão da época, buscando alterar a estética da banda para atingir o sucesso em solo estadunidense. Depois disso, o disco chegou a ser regravado com os novos membros e solos de guitarra ainda mais chamativos, gerando até hoje debates sobre qual das versões é a melhor.
