Lançado em 2016, Love & Hate é o segundo álbum de Michael Kiwanuka, sucedendo a Home Again (2012). O disco foi gravado e produzido em Los Angeles e Londres e contou com a produção de Inflo, Danger Mouse e Paul Butler. As expectativas eram grandes por conta da aclamada estreia do músico, mas foram superadas com um trabalho extremamente complexo e requintado. Kiwanuka já anuncia suas intenções no início com "Cold Little Heart", uma faixa de quase 10 minutos de arranjos refinados e ampla exibição de sua rica voz. Unindo R&B dos anos 70, funk e rock com pegadas psicodélicas por meio de um rápido groove de guitarra, o artista também traz letras de pertinência social, como "Black Man in A White World". Ao longo do disco, cada timbre se mostra mais sombrio e pesado, resultando em uma obra charmosa e brutal.
