Prokofiev and Saint-Saëns got such an extravagant pampering that Django Reinhardt had every right to expect the same. And yet one has to admit that after Peter and the Wolf and Jazz! and Le Carnaval Jazz des Animaux, the 17 musicians of the Amazing Keystone Big Band led by Bastien Ballaz, Jonathan Boutellier, Frédéric Nardin and David Enhco have reached new heights here in their adventures in bringing all manner of jazz to young people and adults. With Django Extended (The Greatest Gypsy Hits), they are giving their own treatment to the guitarist's greatest successes, with the help of four prestigious guests: Stochelo Rosenberg on guitar, Didier Lockwood on the violin, Thomas Dutronc on guitar and Marian Badoï on accordion. The undertaking is daring but the result is as splendid as it is playful. A treat for Django aficionados and something to convert novices to the music of one of the 20th Century's greatest virtuosos, whose music goes far, far beyond Nuages. © CM/Qobuz
