Their band is named after a famous Van Gogh painting. Hailing from Liverpool, the 4 youths that make up The Night Café have authored a luminous collection of dream-pop songs that are as reminiscent of Palace’s wide, cinematographic style as they are of the Local Natives’ elegant melodies. Until now, their notoriety has largely been the result of two Eps, published in 2016 and 2018, as well as their numerous tours across the U.K, notably as a supporting act for The Wombats in early 2019. All bets are off whether the four-man will be the next British Isles revelation, although the talent certainly is there. The two singles Endless Lovers and Mixed Signals highlight the band’s ability to inject the Wild Nothing / Beach House trope of dream-pop with a frantic sense of urgency; the acoustic gem A Message to Myself is the flip side of that coin: with minimal arrangements, stripped to an early Chris Martin-esque ballad (think: Parachutes, circa the year 2000).
