Better known for its vinyl records, ‘Action Cams’ and transportable speakers, the Nordic brand Lenco is launching its PlayLink (by Lenco) ecosystem, in collaboration with Qualcomm AllPlay. The device contains the brains behind PlayConnect and the speakers of PlayLink 4 and 6, both of which are compatible with the FLAC and ALAC (Apple) formats in 24-bit/192kHz.

Next up! As Qobuz has been speculating for months, all the big Hi-Fi and traditional audio brands are launching wireless speaker systems, to be used by themselves and/or in a multiroom setting.

Nordic brand Lenco is now jumping on the bandwagon, with three products belonging to the new PlayLink range: the main PlayConnect brainpower (?149), the PlayLink 4 and 6 speakers (?199 and ?299 respectively).

Lenco?s idea are not new. For example, the brand has created a music streaming ecosystem stored in the Cloud, and is connecting smartphones or i-Devices to each other. However what is interesting, is the role of the Qualcom. Branded with the AllPlay stamp, Qualcom is a multimedia platform that gives simple access to everyone.

The equipment used by the device lies at the heart of this ecosystem, as they increase the efficiency of the Wi-Fi, meaning that the multiroom system is incredibly simple. The AllPlay music player (whose App you can download) ensures a direct compatibility with the AllPlay routers and speakers, meaning that the communication is very straightforward.

The PlayLink 4 and 6 speakers are very different. The former is equipped with a battery enabling listening on the move, whilst the latter offers a much more opulent sound for listening at home. They are both compatible with MP3, AAC, AIFF, WAV ALAC and FLAC, up to 24-bit/192kHz. The two speakers are Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth / NFC (Wi-Fi Dual Band + DLNA). They contain Class D amplification with DSP.

With regards to the PlayConnect, it plays the traditional role of being the ?brainpower?, transforming the existing audio systems into being suitable for streaming. It can control up to 20 hosts (Android/iOS), and obviously supports HD audio.

Although Lenco is short on technical data (power etc), it guarantees much more than a ?baseline?. This means that together the Hi-Fi and Wi-Fi create beautiful music.
