Australians Angus and Julia Stone have reunited and are playing and recording together once more...

Even when presented with a (large) cheque, a producer like Rick Rubin does not normally go out of his way like this… And it is hardly a coincidence that this bearded guru, who has worked with Johnny Cash, the Beastie Boys, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele, Slayer and several other big names, is at the helm of Angus and Julia Stone’s third album, which will be released for the UK and Ireland by the 1st of August, even if it did all originate from... chance! Falling under the spell of their music at a friend’s party, the co-founder of Def Jam was once again impressed after seeing Julia performing by herself in concert. When he contacted her, Julia informed him that she no longer played with her brother. Rubin, however, insisted on meeting Angus.

Now he has revived this pop-folk duo, who while simple, are never simplistic. This eponymous album contains satin textures, stardust daydreams and golden melodies. The record is touched by the same grace that surrounds other great artists (Dylan? Mazzy Star?) and it never tries to conform to the youth culture or the times. In its more intimate and melancholy moments (Wherever You Are), Angus and Julia Stone have never been more overwhelming. A fantastic album.
