He was worshipped by Johnny Cash and many others, but remained largely unknown until his death two years ago, in May 2016. Who was Guy Clark, the immense Texan songwriter, the unmatched narrator, the troubadour with the husky voice whose compositions were interpreted by all the big names of country and folk?

When people of good taste such as Johnny CashWillie NelsonKris KristoffersonRicky SkaggsRodney CrowellEmmylou HarrisBobby BareVince Gill and George Strait regularly revisit your songs, it clearly says something about their calibre… Guy Clark also took the time to record a few albums under his own name. About a dozen for this Texan, who dropped anchor in Nashville in the early 1970s, and who’ll remain a major member of this small clan of unique songwriters able to recount life in the jam and on the fringes like few others. Authors sculpting each word without resorting to any trick. A family that features the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Mickey Newbury, Billy Joe Shaver and Steve Earle. Upstanding, simple, understated and honest, Guy Clark was a fantastic craftsman of little sung stories… His wonderful Desperados Waiting For The Train and That Old Time Feeling were featured on his first album, Old No. 1, released in 1975 at the age of 34. His Desperados Waiting For The Train was covered ten years later by the Highwaymen, a five-star band that brought Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson together. He made regular stops in the studio up until his death, as his last album, My Favorite Picture Of You, was released in 2013.
