Caetano Veloso has added an intellectual dimension to Brazilian popular music.” This author, composer and interpreter, from João Gilberto  was born in 1942 in Santo Amaro, in the state of Bahia. Caetano Veloso rooted his music in bossa nova. But a bossa that was quickly corrupted by the sounds and ideas of the late 60s. The singer was strongly influenced by the Beatles, psychedelic rock and everything to do with avant-garde music and art. But music wasn’t his only subject of interest. A Sartre and Heidegger enthusiast, he studied philosophy at the Federal University of Bahia.
