Thomas de Pourquery

Thomas de Pourquery – born in Bondy, France on July 7, 1977 – is an acclaimed pop and jazz saxophonist and vocalist. He began playing the saxophone at the age of 14 and attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. In 2000, he joined the Big Band Lumière and the National Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Laurent Cugny. Collaborating with trombonist Daniel Zimmermann since 1997, both musicians won the Concours de la Défense in 2002 and then formed the hard bop quintet DPZ. The group released the acclaimed album He's Looking at You, Kid in 2009. His 2012 solo album The Endless Sumer was a critical success and he followed that with Play Sun Ra (2014), a tribute album performed with his sextet Supersonic. The album was honored with the Victoire du jazz award. Forming the group VKNG, they released the album Illumination in 2015. Returning in 2017 with Supersonic, the group released Sons of Love. After several other projects, Thomas de Pourquery and Supersonic released the album Back to the Moon in 2021. Throughout his career, he offered his services as a sideman and performed with Andy Emler’s Megabyte, Jeanne Added, the Red Star Orchestra, Paradis Noir, Pierrick Pédron, Band of Dogs, and others.
