Soulsister
Soulsister is a Belgian pop-rock group formed by Jan Leyers and Paul Michiels in 1985. Leyers had been a part of the rock band Beri-Beri, while Michiels had launched a solo career after playing with the British group Octopus. After meeting in Michiels' hometown of Heist-op-den-Berg, the pair struck a creative partnership and made their debut under the name Soul Sisters with the singles "You Get to Me," "Talk About It," and "Like a Mountain." In 1988, the duo changed their name to Soulsister and issued their studio debut, It Takes Two, via EMI. Propelled by the Motown-tinged track "The Way to Your Heart," which peaked at Number 4 on the German charts and Number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100, the album bowed at Number 18 in Germany. Following yet another name change, this time to Leyers, Michiels and SoulSister, the album Heat appeared in 1990 and ditched the soul influences for a more rock-oriented sound. It was followed by Simple Rules (1992) and Swinging Like Big Dogs (1995), which went to Number 14 in their native Belgium. Leyers and Michiels parted ways in 1997 but revived the moniker a decade later, releasing their fifth full-length Closer in 2008. In subsequent years, they remained active through a series of non-album singles, including "I Need Your Love," which entered the Belgian Top 50 in 2022.
