Paty Cantú
Paty Cantú is a Mexican pop/rock singer who rose to fame as the lead singer of the Latin pop duo Lu in 2004 before embarking on a popular solo career a few years later. Born Patricia Giovanna Cantú Velasco on November 25, 1983 in Guadalajara, Mexico, she co-founded Lu with songwriter Mario Sandoval. The duo made its eponymous album debut in 2004 with Lu on Warner Records. Produced by hitmaker Aureo Baqueiro, the album was a massive success, spawning the chart-topping smash hit "Por Besarte," numerous follow-up singles, and a couple deluxe edition album re-releases. The second Lu album, Álbum (2006), was also a commercial success, spawning the singles "La Vida Después de Ti," "Si Tú Me Quisieras," and "Voy a Llorar," yet it failed to rival the success of the duo's eponymous debut.
After just two album releases, Lu split up in 2007, and Cantú promptly embarked on a solo career. She made her solo recording debut in 2008 with the Top Ten hit single "Déjame Ir." Around the same time, she had a Top Five hit with the song "Dos Palabras," a collaboration with the Mexican heavy metal band Motel. Both "Déjame Ir" and "Dos Palabras" were especially popular on the Latin music television channels MTV and Telehit. Cantú made her solo album debut in 2009 with Me Quedo Sola on EMI. The album reached number three on the Mexican charts and included the follow-up single "No Fue Suficiente."
A year later, she returned with the equally successful Afortunadamente No Eres Tú, followed by 2012's Corazón Bipolar. She was also featured on the 2014 FIFA World Cup song "The World Is Ours." The concert album Drama Queen en Vivo followed that same year and featured the singer performing in 2013 at the National Auditorium in Mexico City. In 2017, Cantú delivered the single "Natural" featuring Juhn.
