Marie Modiano
Marie Modiano is a French singer/songwriter with an English-language folk-jazz-pop style who released her debut album in 2006. Born in 1978, she is the daughter of novelist Patrick Modiano. She studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and found some work as an actress afterward, working in a German theater group and appearing in films such as La Vie Privée (2005). Modiano began performing as a singer in 2004 with a folk-jazz-pop group that included Grégoire Hetzel (piano), Daniel Yvinec (bass), and Arnaud Lechantre (drums). In collaboration with Hetzel as her producer and co-writer, she made her full-length album debut in 2006 with I'm Not a Rose on the Naïve label. Sung in English, I'm Not a Rose spawned the single "C'est dur l'Amour." Modiano collaborated with Peter von Poehl on her second album, Outland (2008), which proved more popular than her debut, reaching number 148 on the French albums chart.
