Luca Ranieri
Luca Ranieri is an Italian violist. He was educated at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan and took instruction from Emilio Poggioni. After graduating with honors, he competed for the position of violist with the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra, which he filled from 1993 to 1999. In subsequent years, he appeared frequently as a concerto soloist and as the first chair violist of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra. He has performed as soloist with I Cameristi della Scala Orchestra, I Pomeriggi Musicali of Milan, and the Orchestra di Padova, among other ensembles, and he has worked with conductors Lorin Maazel, Myung-Whun Chung, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Yuri Temirkanov, Valery Gergiev, Riccardo Muti, Georges Prêtre, Mstislav Rostropovich, Riccardo Chailly, and Zubin Mehta. Ranieri's recording of the Bach Solo Cello Suites, transcribed for viola, was released by Camerata in 2010.
