The Klenke-Quartett was founded in 1994 by students of the Franz Liszt Hochschüle fur Musik in Weimar, Germany. The group is led by first violinist Annagret Klenke and additionally features second violinist Beate Hartmann, violist Yvonne Uhlemann, and cellist Ruth Kaltenhäuser. In the mid-'90s, the Klenke-Quartett took the German and Austrian competition circuit by storm. It has enhanced its reputation through concertizing in Europe and South America, the latter tour undertaken in 2003 under the aegis of the president of Germany. The Klenke-Quartett has also established a close relationship with SWR (South West German Radio) and its radio concert appearances have been issued on the Hänssler Classics label.
