Khamari
With a conversational singing style that can launch into a full-on soul croon, Khamari's intimate, weary songs cope with the everyday. The singer, songwriter, and producer's first EP, Eldorado, appeared in 2020 and included the yearning single "That Girl," which was met with over a million streams before the end of the year. As he perfected his atmospheric blend of intimate bedroom productions and '70s soul, he delivered singles including 2023's Darondo-sampling "Right My Wrongs."
Raised in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, Khamari played instruments ranging from piano and guitar to French horn and violin by the time he enrolled at the Berklee College of Music. He left before graduating to pursue music full-time in 2017. Following a series of popular covers that included several Justin Bieber songs, Khamari released his first single, "Jealous," in June 2020. A low-key track with a smooth, syncopated groove, it was recorded at home and then touched up by production team Trackside (Selena Gomez, Ava Max). Follow-up single "That Girl" was streamed over a million times by the arrival of the debut EP Eldorado that October.
Khamari returned a year later with the intimate "Doctor, My Eyes" and in 2022 with "Drifting," a confluence of modern bedroom R&B and classic soul. They began a series of singles that also included 2023's "Right My Wrongs," which sampled Darondo's plaintive early-'70s ballad "Didn't I."
