Diablo

Diablo are a Finnish metal band who rose to chart-topping success in their homeland during the mid-2000s. Founded in 1995, the band was originally comprised of Rainer Nygård (vocals, guitar), Marko Utriainen (lead guitar), Aadolf Virtanen (bass), and Timo Kemppainen (drums); in 2001 Heikki Malmberg (drums) joined the band, replacing Kemppainen. Signed to the Finnish label Poko Records, Diablo made their full-length album debut in 2000 with Elegance in Black. Their second album, Renaissance (2002), marked their growing popularity, as it charted at number 14 on the Finnish albums chart. Eternium (2004), Diablo's third album, continued to further the band's rising success. It reached number three on the Finnish albums chart, while the hit single "Read My Scars" reached number three on the singles chart. The follow-up album, Mimic 47 (2006), was Diablo's first release to top the albums chart; meanwhile, the title track was likewise the band's first hit to top the singles chart. In the wake of this chart-topping success, Diablo toured Germany in 2007 with the intention of broadening their audience, which to date had been confined more or less to Finland. For their next album, Icaros (2008), Diablo switched from Poko Records to the more specialized metal label Sakara Records. The change of record labels didn't affect the band's popularity much, however, as Icaros reached number two on the Finnish albums chart and the title track was issued as a single. A supporting tour of Europe followed with fellow metal bands Children of Bodom and Cannibal Corpse in tow.
