  • Le compositeur américain Steve Reich est l'un des pionniers de la musique minimaliste, et a influencé John Adams, mais aussi des musiciens de rock comme King Crimson ou Brian Eno. The Desert Music est l'une de ses partitions orchestrales les plus ambitieuses, une mise en musique de textes du poète William Carlos Williams (1886-1963) inspiré de ses propres voyages dans le Désert du Mojave en Californie et aux dunes de White Sands au Nouveau Mexique. Steve Reich a assisté à l'enregistrement de l'album, et ne tarit pas de louanges à propos de la direction incisive, riche et charismatique de Kristjan Järvi, pour un résultat qui frise la perfection.

    Chandos

    Founded in 1979, Chandos is named after the first Duke of Chandos. The Duke was an aristocratic patron who supported Handel, amongst others. Following its namesake’s example, Chandos has worked tirelessly for over thirty years to protect and promote the neglected masterpieces of English music. The label has released the complete oeuvres and symphonies of Arnold Bax and Vaughan Williams, alongside rehabilitating the works of Gerald Finzi, Charles Stanford, Herbert Howells and William Alwyn.
