The 2009 Singles Collection offers something that the many other previous Creedence Clearwater Revival compilations do not: the band's A-sides and B-sides presented complete and in chronological order, plus a DVD containing the five promo clips CCR released ("Sweet Hitch-Hiker," "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "Bootleg," "I Put a Spell on You," "Lookin' Out My Back Door"). This focus means there are songs here that never make most CCR hits collections -- the A-side "Porterville," but generally flips like "Call It Pretending," "Walk on the Water," "Door to Door," and "Tearin' Up the Country," plus the "45 Revolutions Per Minute" oddity -- but apart from that, this covers familiar, albeit still enjoyable, territory

In your panoramas...
Johnny Cash Behind Bars

Two legendary live albums released at the end of the sixties gave Johnny Cash’s career a huge boost and turned him into an international star. They were two records were unlike any others: they were recorded in prison. But how did the Man in Black find himself in such an unusual concert hall?

Frank Zappa, for Better or for Laughs

The more time that goes by since Frank Zappa’s passing on December 4, 1993, the more his absence is cruelly felt in the music world. It's not that we have forgotten him, but we have been searching in vain for someone to fill his boots. Frank Zappa’s genius, both cosmic and comical, has no equivalent today, this is because no one, in almost three decades, has been able to combine such a high level of musical talent with such a brilliant sense of humor. Something Zappa did so well.

And then Nirvana Killed Rock

Thirty-four years ago, Nirvana was born: the most unexpected punk swerve of the end of the 20th century. A rocketing career, international hits, hordes of fans and a tragic epilogue for this worldwide phenomenon. And what if Kurt Cobain’s band was none other than the last band in the history of rock? The ultimate generational phenomenon of genre, if not its last myth.
