Like all the pop stars of her generation, Kimbra Lee Johnson has surrounded herself with a string of rather eclectic producers for her third album. John Congleton, Skrillex, Timon Martin, Taylor Graves, Andrew Maury, Matt Friedman, Salva, Robin Hannibal, Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska to name but a few. All this has helped the New Zealander, based in New York to create her most kaleidoscopic disc to date. An elusive subject who opts for percussive techno, languorous R&B, entho-pop and even Motown-like pop on Past Love, in short just about every subgenre of the genre! Primal Heart is not a reflection of a lack of character, but on the contrary, it is something full to the brim with personality!
