Los Angeles rap group Shoreline Mafia came into the spotlight with a string of releases that focused on unabashed partying, hedonism, and generalized bad behavior. The buzz surrounding the collective landed them a contract with Atlantic, and several mixtapes led up to proper debut studio album Mafia Bidness. There are no major advances in style, production, or subject matter on the record, but more strong examples of what the group does best: lyrics about wanton drug use, reckless partying, and anonymous sex booming out over beats that are largely spacious and hazy. The most notable moments of Mafia Bidness are some of the many songs featuring other, better-known rappers. Kodak Black shows up for the eerie, haunted R&B undercurrents of "On the Low," Future contributes to "Poe the Drop," and commercial rap superstar Wiz Khalifa adds personality to "How We Do It," a reworking of Montell Jordan's party-starting classic "This Is How We Do It." The album also includes guest spots from Lil Yachty, Q da Fool, and multiple appearances from 03 Greedo. Mafia Bidness doesn't offer any massive steps forward for Shoreline Mafia, but it's still a solid collection of tracks perfect for blowing off steam, zoning out, or getting hyped up for the party.
