Showing an admirable lack of concern about flooding the market, Bayside have put out both their new studio album, SHUDDER, and this crisply played and recorded LIVE AT THE BAYSIDE SOCIAL CLUB on the same day. The show, played at New York’s SIR Studios before lucky members of the “Bayside Social Club” (the band’s official fan club), is composed of 13 tracks from all over Bayside’s discography. “They’re Not Horses They’re Unicorns,” from THE WALKING WOUNDED is heralded by grandiose strings, and older favorites like BAYSIDE’S “Don’t Call Me Peanut” and “Hello Shitty” are given committed, crowd-pleasing performances.

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds remain one of the most prolific adventures of the post-punk era. Since the late 1980s, the vast magnetism of the Australian singer has swirled through violent paroxysms, fulminating covers, piano ballads and sweaty rock'n'roll. As the years went by, Cave became more and more of a crooner, part way between a punk Frank Sinatra and an austere Johnny Cash.
An acoustic guitar. Sometimes not much else. But always a unique voice… In recent years, the folk revival has produced some new major and exceptional female singers, just like their elders in the sixties, and particularly the seventies. Some of these Queens of folk have earnt their place in the Hall of Fame, while others remain equally essential hidden gems. This (subjective) selection features ten of the best.
The title may sound like a nebulous marketing ploy, and yet for about twenty years, Americana had been summarizing this blend of rock, country, blues and rhythm ‘n’ blues. And like in every big family, you’ll find almost every type of person: the rebellious daughter, the cultivated uncle, the agitated father, the driven cousin, etc.
