Weki Meki

South Korean girl group Weki Meki operate in a bright and flashy pop mode similar to contemporaries like AOA and WJSN. Blending rapid-fire hooks with rap and rousing dance music, they made a quick entry onto the charts in 2017 with their debut EP, rising even higher the next year with their follow-up, Lucky. The group's 2019 single album, Lock End LOL, yielded the impossibly catchy "Picky Picky." Assembled in 2017 by Seoul-based entertainment company Fantagio, members Suyeon, Elly, Yoojung, Doyeon, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy made their official debut in August 2017 with the six-track EP, Weme, and its cheeky, half-rapped lead single "I Don't Like Your Girlfriend" establishing their exuberant sound. Weme made a strong showing at number seven on the Gaon chart, which they topped early the next year with it successor, Lucky, which hit number two. Weki Meki's cover of the 2009 song, "Butterfly," was used to promote the 2018 Winter Olympics which were hosted by South Korea that year. The group remained busy, releasing the single album Kiss, Kicks in October, after which they remained relatively quiet until May 2019. The arrival of their second single album, Lock End LOL, introduced the wildly catchy "Picky Picky" and was followed by its reissue, Week End LOL, just a few months later.
