On 24th December 2017, Lemmy Kilmister would have celebrated his 72nd birthday, and therefore more than forty years at the head of Motörhead, the noisiest rock ‘n’ roll band in history. Rapid onset cancer finally felled the one who had become an icon that many believed to be immortal, given how many times his death was announced and then refuted. Motörhead, which logically ended with him, therefore lived for four decades through all the ups, downs and misunderstandings…
As the birthplace of an ever-increasing number of metal groups, Sweden proved their worth internationally in the early 90s when a dynamic crowd of metalheads burst onto the scene. We look back in time to understand how Swedish death metal developed and what made it so original.
In the autumn of 1969, four young lads from Birmingham crammed themselves into a studio in London for what looked like their last chance at making a career in music. They had 24 hours to record and to change their lives forever. They left the studio with “Black Sabbath” an eponymous debut album from the band led by Ozzy Osbourne and guitarist Tommy Iommi that would turn a whole generation onto heavy metal. Let's look back on this sonic revolution.
