From The Solitude of Prime Numbers to The Place Beyond the Pines, the scandalous singer from Faith No More has frequently taken part in the creation of original soundtracks. Released on Netflix, 1922 is an adaptation of a Stephen King novel and tells the story of a farmer confessing to the murder of his wife. From its constant inventiveness, the music is undoubtedly one of the greatest successes of this movie. Whether expressing threat (No Grave for Mama) or aggression (Death of a Marriage), Patton’s gems are perfectly suited for thriller music while highlighting the singular genius of this all-around musician. The strings are at the heart of Patton’s approach, whether played pizzicato to translate the nascent madness of the farmer (Murder Is Work) or legato to express the sticky and deeply melancholic aspect of the countryside in the 1920s (Cornfield).To paraphrase Shakespeare, there is truly something rotten in the American agricultural kingdom which precedes the famous crisis from 1929.
