Tetrarch

Bridging the gap between groove-forward nu-metal and pummeling metalcore, Los Angeles-based quartet Tetrarch present a punishing but melodic brand of heavy music inspired by forebears such as Metallica, Trivium, Lamb of God, and Korn. Formed in the 2000s, they rose from the underground in the 2010s with the release of their album Freak and made their mainstream breakthrough with the single "I'm Not Right" from 2021's major-label Unstable. Founded in Atlanta by lead guitarist Diamond Rowe and vocalist Josh Fore, Tetrarch went through a series of lineup changes before eventually recruiting bassist Ryan Lerner and drummer Ruben Limas. In the early days, the band played throughout the local circuit, self-releasing EPs such as 2008's Pravda and 2011's The Will to Fight, which balanced the hook-friendly, groove-forward styles of their nu-metal inspirations with technical prowess indebted to Rowe's riff-loving inspirations Slash, Kirk Hammett, James Hetfield, and Dave Mustaine. After cutting 2013's Relentless, the group embarked on their first headlining tour. Seeking to expand their reach, they relocated to Los Angeles in 2015 and began work on Freak. Produced by Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Allegaeon), the 2017 set introduced the band to a wider audience with singles such as "Break the Trend" and "Pull the Trigger," a sonic amalgam that mashed the aggression of Slipknot with the brutal melodicism of Linkin Park. For a follow-up, Tetrarch again paired with Otero for 2021's Unstable (Napalm), which included their breakthrough single "I'm Not Right."
